The founder of Our Lady’s Society of the Most Holy Trinity (SOLT), Fr. Flanagan, developed the vocation of consecrated widowhood and has written a rule of life for them. This way of life for consecrated widows differs from religious life. It allows them to remain at the heart of their families, who need their help and presence in a real sense, yet still enables them to consecrate their life to Jesus.
As Members of the Society, consecrated widows follow a rule of life with Our Blessed Mother as their gift and model for their consecrated life, which enables greater holiness and perfection. They will make promises to Jesus of poverty, chastity and obedience. These promises are renewed annually following her / their formation.
Spiritual growth is through receiving daily Eucharist, praying the Rosary, Liturgy of the Hours, SOLT spiritual exercises, Divine Mercy devotion, and spiritual direction. Their lives should be marked by kindness, generosity, modesty, simplicity, hospitality, compassionate concern for family, extending motherhood to all those in need and teaching all who they encounter about Jesus.
Consecrated widows meet regularly and receive guidance through the teachings and spiritual exercises of Fr. Flanagan.
“Our Lady as Mother of God is very rejoiced to have called you to herself. May you imitate her, become like Jesus and live for the Triune God. May the widowhood of Mary, form you to be one with Jesus as He is with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Look upon Jesus and your Redeemer and teacher, the spouse of your soul, serving and loving Him with all of your heart.” Fr. J. Flanagan.
